There are several options, depending on your interests and your horse's talent or inclination. They include the following and all are offered by the Arabian Horse Club of Connecticut:•Recreational riding (the AHCC has an awards programs).•Competitive and endurance riding (the AHCC has an awards program, and the Arabian breed is great at this). *We are currently in need of a chairman. •Horse shows. There are different levels. Schooling shows which are great for a beginning horse and rider and are less expensive, with no show clothes required. Local Connecticut shows which may just require proof of registration, plus entry fees with show clothes required. There are also Regional competitions where competitors are more accomplished generally, and registration is required. There are also fees for those not members of the Arabian Horse Association, or of the USA Equestrian. If you are a member, the fees do not apply to you at these Class A shows.•Dressage riding (this is becoming increasingly popular and appeals to those who like showing, but may prefer a different type of showing other than the regular riding ring gaited performance).Q. What should I do to become more knowledgeable and active?A. Start by joining our club! By becoming an AHA affiliated member of AHCC, an AHA recognized club, you then do not have to pay fees at Class A horse shows, this goes with your club membership. Arabian shows are governed by USEF rules; therefore it is wise to also be a member of the USEF, thereby eliminating paying assessed USEF fees at the show. Membership in both organizations saves you money in the long run and has many advantages such as monthly publications and rule books.Q. What if I just enjoy riding for fun?A. AHCC recognizes that an increasing number of horse owners want to do recreational riding; therefore we offer a recreational riding program with awards. *We are currently in need of a chairman. Q. Exactly what is AHCC and how do I fit into the big picture?A. AHCC, with more than 200 members, is the focal point for Arabian horse activity in Connecticut. In 2008 AHA (our parent organization) awarded the AHCC with the prestigious Club of the Year award, as well as winner of Club Projects. In 2007 the AHCC was the winner in the Communications category. Since 2005 the AHCC has been a finalist in all four categories at any given time of AHA’s Club of the Year contest. Most members belong to AHCC through the AHA. We send delegates to an annual AHA convention where members vote on resolutions proposed by other clubs and regions (from individuals like yourself) and affecting the riding, breeding and showing of Arabians and Half-Arabians. Conventions assure members a voice in directing the industry. There is an Amateur Committee which addresses Amateur concerns and issues. Call or write AHA for more information.Q. If I am already affiliated with another AHA recognized club, can I switch my affiliation to the AHCC?A. Yes! If you are not satisfied with your current club yes you can change your affiliation, just contact AHA. Or, you can be affiliated with more than one club. Most clubs require an affiliated membership to participate in awards programs.Q. Where do I start?A. Start by joining AHCC, and calling or writing places which appeal to your interests.
